file Pacifier/Reflux question

No idea what the allergies could be. Doctor also said it could be washing powder or whatever but suspects its a food allergy. Guess we will slowly start doing a process of trial and error to see what it could be. I am vegetarian so it is going to be difficult cutting out all diary but that would be my first guess, causing all the problems. Good luck to me lol :cheer:

Hi Bunnyhugger

I was just thinking about you and your LG a few days ago and I was wondering how she is.

I am glad that you have finally gotten an answer, good on you for trusting your instinct and not just believing she is spoilt. I am sure your MIL is eating her words right now!

Have you figured out which foods are not agreeing with her? I can imagine that this must be quite difficult.

All the best to you, and keep us updated.

Funny you should mention that DieSwartKat because I was at the paediatrician just yesterday and she told me it seems as though my baby has food allergies which is resulting in ear trouble, congestion and eczema....all on top of her reflux! No wonder she struggles to sleep. She also never really shows any symptoms or seems to be in much discomfort other than the odd occasion and every time we have taken her to our GP she couldn't find anything wrong with my LO. She is always so happy that you start doubting yourself and question whether there really is a medical problem keeping her awake.....believe it or not, my mother-in-law told me the other day that she is spoilt and therefore cries and screams at night....

Hi,

Have you had her ears checked? My one had a burst eardrum at 8 months, with no symptoms other than sleep disturbances similar to what you describe. She was a silent reflux baby, so I also thought it was related to that. She never appeared to be in hideous pain, but you can imagine how bad I felt when I found out what the real problem was!

Thought I would give you all a quick update on my baby. I couldn't get an appointment with the paediatrician so I went to my doctor who prescribed Losec Mups and Gaviscon. The first two days I immediately noted a difference in my LO but last night she was irritable again so will see over time I guess. Last night we put her down to sleep and she woke half hour later and was crying/screaming for a good half hour. She kept tossing and turning and was generally very unhappy and woke frequently that night. Might be her teeth? She has also started refusing her pacifier and only wants boob! Not sure what that is all about.......

The fact that she is snacking makes me even more sure its the reflux that is making her uncomfortable, some babies do that, as the milk actually soothes their burning throat temporarily  Like when we drink milk to soothe heartburn.

I hear you with the diet, if you are up to it perhaps just try cutting out diary for 10 days, and see if you notice a change. If not, I would not bother. Because I was so desperate for answers with my LG at the time, I did the total elimination diet, which was eliminating all dairy, soy, wheat, egg and nuts. I basically lived off rice and chicken  It was very hard and I was quite grumpy (I do love my food ;) ), but I started putting food types slowly back into my diet and so figured out it was the dairy.

If you only change the way you administer the Nexium though, you should see a difference.

All the best and please update us

Thank you for the advice! No I have never been told to administer Nexium like that :S I just went to the doctor who advised she will contact the paediatrician and ask what else she could prescribe as she explained that the Nexium does not stop the reflux, it just helps neutralize the acid........So we shall see. She also says it sounds as though my LO is hungry as she keeps 'snacking' on me and never takes full bottles during the day and only drinks a bit here and there(she is with my mum during the day and I express milk for her). At least it is starting to look like there is a reason other than a bad habit, causing her to wake up frequently at night.

Oh goodness, I am vegetarian so no idea how I will manage without diary and soy!
