Stressed and excited all at once... Recently found out that my next one will be here in the next 8 months thought it would be a lil later as my 1st is only 16mnths..
My question is regarding gynaes / hospitals.
I have shortlisted two hospitals close to home which are Fourways Life and Wilgeheuwel Life due to the medical aid plan that I am on. Now da big Q: Does anyone recommend a gynae at one of these hospitals that are not charging way over the discovery rate?
I suppose it depends on your medical aid? If you are still on the same plan with the same medical aid you can sort of get a feeling for what will be covered based on your previous experience.
I think you will need to find out from your medical aid:
1. what is their medical aid rate for a gynae consult
2. on your particular plan, are you covered for 100, 200 or 300% of the medical aid rate
3. if you are covered 100% for in-hospital expenses
Then find out from the doctor at fourways/wilgeheuwel what their rate is. On a decent plan you should be covered 100% for all in-hospital expenses, so you should rather be worried about costs during the pregnancy rather than costs in the hospital.
Just out of interest sake, for Dr Wypkema the current rates are:
1st scan (6 - 8 weeks): R1755
12 week scan: R1000
21 week scan: R1495
32 week scan: R1100
All other visits: R600 each
These prices include urine tests, sonars, photos (printed as well as on a cd) and 4d scans every time. It excludes any blood work that you need to do at Lancet Labs.
