We also tried various things, but it was never 100% foolproof.
In the end the only thing that works completely is to get a mosquito net for baby's cot. Buy a nice big one from a camping shop (for a single or even double bed) and ensure that cot is covered properly every evening.
If a bite does occur, we use Anthisan ointment and it works really fast and effectively.
Oh yes, and just one other thing... from a mommy that took her LG to the Paed when she had her first Mozzie bites because I thought there was something terribly wrong to have caused these bumps... When they do bite / sting, just apply a little bit of Anthistan (OTC at all pharmacies and safe for baby)
Dischem's green range has a baby insect repellent cream that doesn't smell like citronella (I can't stand the smell) and it keeps all the insects away. It lasts for 8 hours so I apply it to my LG in the morning mixed with sunscreen and at night mixed with her lotion. She also has a very sensitive skin and excema and it doesn't give her any reaction.
peacefull sleep has a thingy that you can plug into the wall in her room, then every night you put a pad inside. works really well - just don't close the door if you have this.
Pure beginnings also have a nice mosquito stick - get them at babycity.
Bennets also have one - at all the usual shops
my favourity one is from O Lief - works well and is safe on sensitive baby scin and is also safe should baby gets some in her mouth.
i don't know if they sell in shops - i got mine at the baby expo, but you can order online from their site
