I am about 3 months pregnant and started seeing Gyni at private hospital in the hopes of getting added on medical aid in the meantime . Unaware that the medical aid schemes has long waiting periods and mite not even cover hospitilisation leaves me in a bit of a situation as private costs are very expensive out of own pocket. I'd like to know what the process for hospitilisation is at government hosp . I had 2 consultations and scans by gyni at private hosp . Do i need to ask for all that info and present to govt hosp ? Not sure what the process is .PLEASE HELP .
Firstly congrats on your pregnancy. I went through the same thing I tried to get on the medical aid schemes after I fell pregnant and they told me possibilities of getting accepted while already pregnant were slim. So I too had no choice but to just embrace going to the government hospital as paying cash would have been a very big expense that I think all that money would have rather been better to use towards preparing for the baby and so forth.
So I went to the hospital (GOV) and I must say it was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. The hospital I opted for looked quite clean and they were very professional. So what they did is took some tests, did a sonar to determine how far I am and opened a file. They recorded my due date in their books for the EDD. Then they transferred me to the nearest clinic where I could go for my checkups. Honestly so far I have not had a single bad experience with both the hospital nor the clinic. The only thing is the long queues so the earlier I go the better. You just have to go there and tell them its your first time coming. Then from your first visit they will tell you on your next appointment date.
Thank you very much for feedback . Greatly appreciated !!
I suppose i would have to go thru the same process then . Being very sceptical of Govt hospitals I hope I will also have a pleasant experience there . Holding thumbs then .
I also had a tough time having to come to terms with going to Gov especially after the stories that people will tell you. So just try research all those close to your area and go for the one that you will get more positive feedback about. Maybe you will be just as lucky as I was. But don't panic much I mean this is just for a few months and it will all be finished.
