Hi Ronel... Rebecca loves the playtex ventaire bottles and switches very easily between breast and bottle. the bottles work on the same principle as breast feeding- the milk doesn't just flow out of the bottle, baby has to suck and create a vacuum like with breast feeding. also i found that Rebecca doesn't like her formula bottles too warm, just a tad warmer than room temprature seems to be about right so maybe your little one is finding the formula too warm? also, what formula are you using? Rebecca is on s26 and she is thriving on it.

I've noticed that the medela breatpump is very popular & extremely good. I know it's a bit pricey but hey, it's worth it!

If the noise is too loud, I'll just go & sit in the car in the works basement , then everybody can work in peace

What bottles work on the medela or did you just transfer to your preferred bottle?

Hi,

I used the Medela to express at work for over 9 months. It was a bit noisy - I locked myself in an empty office, but EVERYBODY knew what I was doing in there . They could hear the noise in the corridor and next-door office. (Also had the misfortune that the empty office was accross the kitchen, and I expressed lunch time)

As for bottles - I didn't use a specific 'brand', I used to just buy narrow neck bottles as needed.
Most of them fitted 100% on the pump, and even the 1 or 2 that was a bit 'loose' worked fine, as the pump doesnt need a vacuum seal with the bottle to function.

And as for cost - I managed to put mine on the medical aid (Discovery) ;) So if you have sufficient funds in your savings account, you can always give that a try. My medela cost me R7 in co-payments

Momtoc, the Nuk standard bottles work with Medela, so you can pump into the medela bottle and then just attach the Nuk teat

I also got mine through my medical aid ( discovery) which was great

Like Jeanine says its a bit noisy, but to be honest, I got the the point where I didn't care, just got on with what needed doing. some days I also just sat in the car and pumped.

there were not many nice places to pump at my work place and since I traveled to various business units, I just had to pump where I was

Just one tip for the medela in the begining I got some milk int eh filter and phoned them and they explained how to clean it, I then cleaned it every week or two to keep it pumping at maximum !

Thank you everyone for the replies and advice.

@Rebecca - I have never heard of the bottles you are referring to. What is the exact name of the bottle and teats and where did you buy them? I am using the small size NUK teat but it is as if the milk is flowing too quick for him to swallow. Also, he is drinking Novlac formula. How do I know wether it is the milk or the bottle?

ronel,

Here is the website :

www.playtexbaby.com/Bottles/VentAire.aspx

That is what I hated about the Avent & Dr Brown bottles with my lg. It came out way too quickly. She also suffered from reflux & was put on Novalac when she was about 3 months old. Nan just gave her bad acid.

She was on Novalac until she was 18 months old & she loved that milk. It also cleared her acid & eased the reflux in a few days. It is just very expensive cause you don't get it in big tins but I'm a huge Novalac fan.............

It is difficult to tell if it's the milk or just the bottle. Does your lo spit the milk out?
