Claudia, I'm at Medihelp but on their network option. Their maternity benefits covers 2 scans and a max of R16000 for the birth with a midwife, they don't pay a gyni for the birth, if you want a gyni you'll have to pay him out of your pocket. On their "better" plans, they cover 12 gyni visits and pays the gyni for attending the birth.
So I have no idea how much they would pay the midwife and they won't cover a doula, but if your midwife claims for an assistant then she can claim part of the doula money back. I think most aids pays a max of R1200 for a midwife assistant, which must be claimed by the midwife on her bill.

I am 29 weeks now and I am URGENTLY looking for a qualified midwife in the Pretoria (East) area who can possibly assist me with a homebirth? I had a c-sec 3 years ago (elective - gynea kind of forced me into it)... and I am SO considering a home birth..
I went for my first consult this month with Midwives only to now find out Discovery's maternity benefit will not cover (I paid and claimed back from savings). So I am now trying to figure out if I should get a network registered nurse midwife and do home birth or just go to hospital with midwife. I don't want the latter though. Sigh, any advice.
