file Natural birth for Twins

7 years 3 months ago #229903 by Twirlgirl
Hi there.

I am pregnant with fraternal twins and due on 27 February 2013.
I am looking for a pro-natural gynaecologist in the Pretoria/Centurion area who has helped to deliver twins naturally before.
I am well aware of all risks both ways. I respect mothers who opt for C-sections and those whom do not have a choice, however I wish to try my best to do give birth naturally following my personal research and reasons.
The midwifes I have contacted is asking for a Gynaes input.
Unfortunately I cannot find any Gynae who is willing to help me with natural birthing of twins.
Is there any of you who has delivered twins naturally at any hospital before and if so who is your gynae?

Twirlgirl congrats firstly!

I would suggest you contact Genisis clinic, and look at having your babies there? Totally possible to have twins naturally - if not then I wonder how in biblical times they managed ;) I have an aunt and a friend who had their twins totally naturally. And even know of a women how had a vbac twins on the side of the road!

Best of luck!

Look on the Genesis site. Midwife Phindy (i think thats how you spell it) specializes in multiple and breach birth. She works with dr Mia (also from Genisis) they do the births at Linkwood because Genesis does not have a NICU and chances are a bit more for that with twins, unless you birth full term, then I think Genesis is fine.

I know its not Pretoria / Centurion, but believe me, its SOOOO worth it!!!

Dear Hasie & MissesMom
Thank you kindly for your Advice.
My previous gynae told me that twin pregnancies are seen as a complication and that I will have to opt for elcetive c-section at (16 weeks)?? especially if twin B takes more than 20min to deliver after twin A.
This was very upsetting, this was after I already read many medical articals (mostly from UK and USA) where it seemed that natural birth still has more pros than cons (if no complications) even for twins.
I felt totally lost before your messages and will definitely contact Genesis and try to get connected with Dr Mia and midwife Phindy.
Bofore you I was beginning to think that its all about the money (if this was me in a state hospital I'm quessing I would not have had any other choice than to push).
I am fully aware that there is a possibilty that en emergency c-section might occur and I will prepare myself for that. But I am still hoping for natural birth - for many reasons one being we want to broaden our family as soon as we can and we want 4/5 kids... :-)
Thanks yet again!!!
It seems there is hope for woman who want to deliver naturally in the private sector in SA!
You both made my day!!!!!

Please keep posting especially if there is someone with the name of a gynae which fits my needs (as above) from Pretoria (was hoping for a gynae from Kloof - heard its one of the top hospitals in the country....?)

I'm so glad you have seen a bit of light!!!

Its very possible to birth twins naturally, and it has been done in SA.

However if its a natural birth you want, you are going to have to work for it. Make sure you see a good midwife, prepare for birth VERY WELL. Do all that you can to stay in shape, to keep your uterus relaxed and balanced (helps babies turn down) and if babies are not head down, then come and do a few hypnosis sessions, even the HypnoBirthing course. We have special scripts for twin mommies.

I wouldn't go any where near Kloof for a natural birth. They really have a 90% c-sec rate, they don't do any natural births (meaning without meds / epidural). A client of mine moved to another gyni / hospital to just go birth somewhere else, she says that if she attempts a natural birth there, she will feel like a experiment in a lab as its never done so the staff are not used to it at all...

Hi there,

Femina Clinic in PTA also have a natural birthing unit, Hasie might know the name. Contact Marie-louise Steyn, she is a midwife there and would be able to advise you on the possibilities of a natural birth... And should it be necessary to go to the hospital then the FeminaClinic is right there!

She would also be available to advise which gynae at the hospital would be pro-natural birth with twins... Like Hasie wwould tell you that hospital has the highest natural birth rate innthe country... You can read her comments on the VBAC thread about the hospital!

I had a wonderful fully natural (no meds or epidural) experience at the hospital in 2010, and they were just as supportive and wonderful when i was rushed to hospital with bleeding on Sunday!

Really hope you get the birth you want! Here's to a happy and healthy pregnancy!
