The mental condition of a patient suffering from a debilitating disease is fragile and many at times they will tend to switch over into o depression losing hope and the passion of life. This is the reason why many hospitals throughout the world are realizing the magic of humor and are taking
laughter therapy for cancer
seriously. Cancer hospitals have full-time staff and even volunteers making visits to patients and relatives inspiring them to bring laughter back into their lives. The social interaction involved in laughing together helps them to relax and this helps the healing process. Hospitals have humor rooms that house all sorts of entertainment that can trigger the tickle bone to momentarily forget their condition and even help one to have a good time during their hospital stay. During the laughter therapy sessions, the cancer patients and their families are made to form each leader - led groups and they perform laughter exercises together. Even fake laughter has its benefits as with continued laughter the body’s natural pain killers called endorphins are released and the immune system and circulatory system are also triggered and all this complements the conventional cancer treatment that the patient receives. It is difficult for the patients to respond to humor in the beginning due to the situation they are facing, but, once they realize the positive effects and begin to experience the physical as well as emotional changes they themselves will take initiatives for the therapy sessions and the medicines will do the rest of the job.
