StellaK. I have heard a lot of info and preferences on all the day time nappy solutions. I like the idea and look of the All in ones and pockets. It seems as though bamboo and hemp inserts are the most absorb able right? and microfibre shouldn't touch baby's bum, but should rather be inside a pocket? What do you find works best for night time? It seems that is quite a challenge with some. and also...I see the fitted night time nappies have difference sizes...I guess I should wait and see how big baby is before I buy right? and lastly...my hubby is not keen on the pre loved/second hand nappy idea AT all. He was a bit uncertain with the cloth nappies as it is..now he is sold but I have to buy new..although I did sneak buy a pre loved fancy pants that he isn't aware of..lol

Faffymum,

I mainly use Alva pockets in day time at the moment. You are right in SA they are sold by Snugglybum and Mulberry moon. Fancy pants are very similar.

I pair microfibre insert and a bamboo insert for day time, the microfibre absorbs very quickly but doesn't hold a lot of fluid, the bamboo absorbs slowly and holds a lot. So I put the microfibre closest to the bum (still in the pocket) and the bamboo at the back so the MF absorbs the wetness quickly and passes it to the bamboo which makes it last for longer. My son can sleep in this if I change him at 11pm before I go to bed and then use a double bamboo behind the microfiber. He is 8 months old now.

For a better night time solution I use Poopsy Daisy night nappies (if you are lucky enough to get your hands on these, buy!!) with a weegro cover. You can get weegro on www.littlesams.co.za the come with a microfiber insert which doesn't work to well on its own. The only problem I have with Poopsy Daisy is that you have to put a cover over and they are so pretty that it would have been nice to use it without a cover. But a friend of mine is starting her own nappy line soon, she cloth diapered all 4 her kids, so she knows what works, and she will be using PUL inside her nappies, will let you know when she is ready to start selling.

In the past I have also used prefolds and still have loads of these, they are an awesome solution when you have a really wet day with load shedding and you are running out of nappies...

GREAT! thanks so much. I love the soft cuddly look of poopsy daisy. Ja she does seem over loaded with orders. The lady who makes them said she will take orders again in feb for march. So yes...I will try get my hands on some if I can. They look super cute. How about Mother nature fitteds? Have you tried those? The other I was looking at was Earth babies.

I can't comment on Mother nature as I've never used them myself. I have a friend who worked for earth babies and I have used their training pants, they where very good quality. Not sure if these two companies are keeping up with the times with regards to using bamboo and hemp as the new WAHM are doing. I will never buy cotton products again, although my first two kids where mainly raised on cotton prefold nappies, I have now discovered the beauty of bamboo and hemp with regards to absorbency. There is no comparison... Think big bum nappy compared to trim small bum nappy...
